Day 4 - Guatemala

Today was an amazing prayer day! We started our day off with a word from our teammate Chris, Philippians 4:4-6, “Rejoice in the Lord always again I will say Rejoice. Let your reasonableness be known to everyone. The Lord is at hand; do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God, which surpasses all understanding will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus”. Friends, this was totally true today. We saw real requests, vulnerable requests, true, heart wrenching requests being asked to the Lord.

We started the day off with our “IT Specialist”, Kendall Lloyd, finishing up a project at the Lima Academy where he configured some switches and data lines so the school could have multiple users on the internet. God has used all of our skills and specialties on this trip and this was very evident in Kendall’s work at the Lima Academy the past few days. Once we finished this up, we began the highlight of our day – the prayer walk through the La Limonada neighborhoods. Before the walk we got to meet the hero of Lemonade International, Tita, who founded the organization. We began with a prayer in the streets and read some verses out of Isaiah. You could tell this day was going to be different and life changing for us. Boy did it live up to its expectations! We were able to walk through the tough streets of La Limonada and see the face of Jesus. We were welcomed into strangers’ homes who asked us to pray for them in a real heartfelt way. STRANGERS! Seriously… They were not concerned about what their house looked like, if it was clean enough, big enough, if the dishes were clean, the floors swept, the beds made… We were welcomed no matter the circumstance, because we had Jesus as our common ground. Everything else was put aside. The only thing we had, and the only thing they wanted was Jesus! Jesus was enough! Jesus IS enough!! We sang and praised Jesus in the middle of the street, not caring about what people thought, or who heard us… We had Jesus!

It’s amazing that we have so much in the US including our basic needs met, monetary security but yet lack the great faith that we saw today. I am more convinced than ever that the spiritual needs of our local US communities are great in comparison to those here in the poorest areas of Guatemala City. We have SO much but SO little at the same time and these people have SO little but SO much with their relationship with God. I want what they have and I hope to leave with a little more joy and peace in my life than when I left.

This trip just continues to give us wisdom, love and fuel for our relationship with Jesus. The greatest thing about mission trips is that we come to give but we leave filled up. We end up receiving as much or more than we gave. I am loving this trip to see these beautiful people and I am so glad put Katie and I here this week. Thank you Jesus!!
