My Heart for Haiti

In January, I have an exciting opportunity to return to Haiti. After learning about sex trafficking, I have felt called to join a small group of women from Forest Hill Church who are also passionate about fighting this social injustice. Our team plans to participate in an eight-day mission trip. We arrive in Port-au-Prince on January 28, 2017, and return to Charlotte on February 4, 2017.

I am so excited about this upcoming trip. Over the past few years, I have had the chance to go to Haiti several times. Each of these trips has had such an impact on my understanding of just how big our God is. I love being able to build relationships with people across the world. It has been an honor to continue these relationships over the past 4 years. I am continually amazed at how the Lord provides for us in miraculous ways during our trips.

We will be coming along side women in the community to simply love on them. We will build relationships, care for, and be cared for by these women. I am so excited for all of the unknown and unexpected blessings that the Lord has in store for us. While in Haiti, we will partner with Mission of Hope in the village of Minoterie. Mission of Hope is a gospel based aid organization that has been in Haiti for 25 years serving the community with medical aid, nutrition programs and primary and secondary education (www.mohhaiti.org). We will focus specifically on the problems surrounding the sex trade and minister directly to the women being exploited in this industry.

While working alongside the local churches in Minoterie, here are a few things we may be able to do:
Visit schools to teach young girls the importance of education and the risks involved with participating in the sex industry
Relational and prayer ministry as we visit sex workers in the local brothels
Host a gathering of women in the village to share about our identity in Christ and self-worth (may involve some fun girly things like painting nails, sharing a meal together, etc.)

Minoterie is a source, transit, and destination for women caught in the sex trade of Haiti. The village is widely known for prostitution, causing it to be extremely unsafe for young women that live there. One young man in the village has to actually pay off traffickers so as to protect his sisters from being sexually exploited. Due to the lack of education and opportunity within Minoterie, the sex trade offers some women their only chance of surviving but it comes at a high cost.

One of the ways that you can help me is to pray for the trip, for the ministry we will perform, and for me personally. Only with prayer and support will I be able to participate in this exciting experience. There are also financial needs for this trip. The cost of this trip is $2,000.00 and each team member is responsible to raise this money through support.

Your prayers and support are so appreciated!
