Our final day in Guatemala was one for the books!! In the morning, we joined all 4 academies in a field trip to celebrate the end of the school year! We went to a local church for a kids program! La Limonada is controlled by gangs, and because of gang territories the kids in the separate academies never interact... except for field trips! It was so great to see the unity of these students despite the community they are from! We loved playing games, attempting our basic Spanish, and seeing the kids have FUN! On top of it all, some of our team members got to hang out with their sponsor child! Highlight of our day!
In the afternoon we were able to visit a downtown pedestrian mall and large food market! It was exciting to experience more of the Guatemalan culture. Of course we sampled tons of food and coffee!
To end our night, we treated our volunteers to a special thank you dinner. We could not have had such a productive week without them!!!
