Bonswa! Sorry for the delay in our first post, but we arrived safely and with no hiccups! We arrived yesterday at around 4pm with a great breeze and spent the evening settling in.

Our first full day today started with a tour of the Mission of Hope campus followed by an amazing church service. Even though it was spoken in Haitian Creole, you could still feel God moving. We were welcome with open arms!

After church and lunch, we headed out to the village of Leveque where they are known for the “blue to block” homes. That initiative was put in place after the 2010 earthquake where they would build temporary tarp houses and eventually start building cement block homes. Leveque is also known for having a deaf community and they now have solar panels for electricity. We went to the playground as well and spent time with the children of that village that were so full of life and loved taking pictures, “You, photo!”

Our next stop was Bercy, which is Mission of Hope’s second campus. On that campus is the Grace House, where they house the elderly that are looked down upon after they reach a certain age and are considered too old to contribute. The second campus also consists of a school and a Pastoral training center that is right on the water. The ocean view was indescribable.

Our day ended with a delicious, traditional Haitian meal prepared by girls from the Transition home at the bottom of the hill. We ended our evening with a team debrief and an intense game of spoons!

Stay tuned for our next adventure! Orevwa! #Haitiorbust2016
